Seven RPG's Meme

OK, I'll throw my hat in on this.

The Top Seven RPG's I've Played and GM'ed.

  1. AD&D 1st Edition - My group of friends quickly shed D&D B/X for AD&D 1st Edition.  We played the heck out of it up until second edition came out.
  2. AD&D 2nd Edition - When AD&D 2nd Edition came out we quickly abandoned 1st Edition for the 2nd. We had many great campaigns up through high school using AD&D 2nd Edition.
  3. Space Master - The sci-fi variant of Rolemaster (better known as Chart Master) we used Space Master as kind of a base sci-fi system in which to create our own mash up of various genres (A few one offs mimicking the movie Aliens, bounty hunters hunting replicants ala Blade Runner, and a few other semi-post apocalyptic settings). I don't think we ever got the rules right be we loved the plasma repeater weapon charts.
  4. Gama Word - We has a few numerous short lived campaigns, which we all enjoyed, but we always seemed to return back to D&D.
  5. RIFTS- I hated the palladium rule sets, but the world concept was so compelling that we ran a few campaigns using Rifts, I even got a few people to play this one with me in college. Also using the Palladium system as a GM I loved Mechanoids, and I tried to run some campaigns that included some epic mass battles, but my players got bored with the system and my GMing and we moved on.
  6. GURPS - We used the Autoduel source book for GURPS quiet a bit (we played Car Wars a fair amount) and had a lot of fun short campaigns using this system.  I still think GURPS is the only real system to pull of being generic, though Savage Worlds might be giving GURPS some competition.  I haven't SW enough to tell yet.
  7. James Bond - I loved playing this game.  The rules were very innovative for it's time.
Games I've Most Recently Played or Ran
  1. D20 Modern / SciFi - I plugged in my own damage / hit points system into a home brew one off that went pretty well.  Hit points were basically CON x 5, and each weapon had a mark number.  Damage was D10 x weapon mark number.  Personal combat weapon damage ratings where usually from the mark 3 (small blaster pistol) to the mark 12 (rail gun) damage ratings. Personal shields / armor matched up to different weapons differently (shields essentially were invulnerable to blasters, but against slower moving slug throwers were ineffective).  I might right up those rules and post them sometime.
  2. I played in a four session 3.5 D&D campaign a while ago.  We had a great DM but he moved.
Games I Would Like to Play
  1. Barbarians of Lemuria - Let's face it, as we get older time for gaming is shortened. BoL is a rules light conan-esque game where you can create characters and be up and running in under five minutes. I think for long campaigns the rules might need a slight bit of tweaking, but let's face it getting adults together for even 3 gaming sessions in a row is difficult now a days.  I did one play test with my wife and she enjoyed it, but she hasn't asked to play again, and when I bring it up she says we need more people :(
  2. Savage Worlds - I hear the hype, and I'm impressed by all the user created worlds for the system. I'd like to try the game out and see if it lives up to the hype.
  3. OSR mashup.  I'd like to play one of the various free OSR games out there, maybe mix and mash up a few of them and run a campaign as a GM as well.
For a semi-complete list of all the games I've played or owned, check a few blog post back.  Happy gaming.

Mutant Future Christmas Themed Adventure

Bad Santa: An Adventure Concept for your Mutant Future or Post Apocalyptic Game So I *might* be running a game session tonight, I'm kind of the back up guy.  We will have possibly three GM's present, and I'm probably 3rd in line.  But as one looks like will be a no show and the other is new, I figure I better have at least a concept of an adventure setup.  So for a quick and dirty set of ideas I used the Beast & Barbarians Golden Edition adventure idea generator to generate some broad concepts for an adventure, and then applied them to a Mutant Future setting.  I also wanted to have the adventure Christmas/Holiday themed.  So here goes. Back Story The party is friends with a mutant settlement that relies on a semi-working robotical farm for food.  Some kind of robotical unit snuck into the village and stole the nuclear power cell from one of the main CPU that controls the farm.  A scout from the village tracked the bot's path into the ru...

CharacterAI Inspired Story

A mysterious rider appears in a forest and encounters a humanoid monster attempting to slay him. He defeats the monster and discovers a mystical cabin in the woods. Inside, an old woman listens to his tale, allows him to rest, feeds him, and then gives him a sword to aid in his quest. We learn the rider is a knight, obliged to kill any magical being preying on humanity, seeking vengeance for the slaying of his family by such a being. Continuing his journey, the rider reaches a keep after spending a night at a farm, where he is kindly received. It's revealed that he was once a farmer himself. At the keep, plagued by a night dragon, he stays overnight, awaiting an audience with the local lord. He demonstrates magical tricks to the keep's soldiers, hinting at his extraordinary nature. Learning that the soldiers are preparing to attack the dragon, he dissuades them, warning of their likely demise. In the morning, hearing of the lord's plan to muster an army against the dragon, ...
