Steve ran a campaign in the D20 supplement known as "The End". It is the Biblical apocalypse with a twist. "The meek shall inherit the earth" means that some people will be left behind after the tribulation and the sheep and the goats are separated to their eternal destinies. Those left behind are the "meek" and have to deal with an earth transitioning from the past to something new...and the apocalypse elements are still present...supernatural beings, animals that have lost their fear of man, and a rapidly changing landscape. Human survivors are few and not always friendly.
Here is just a recap of what has happened so far.
Here is just a recap of what has happened so far.
- Our party meets at at the remnants of a local gun store and plunders it
- Our party sends a few people to scout out a local supermarket that is mostly looted. Some food is found but an unfortunate altercation happens and two people who may have been just looting like we were for survival end up being killed by a member of our group.
- There is fear that the two people killed have friends. A motorcycle gang shows up and that party hides. After a few hours the gang leaves.
- The party relocates to a trailer park for the night and then continues scavenging for supplies in the local area.
- The party identifies a pretty desirable house in a remote location and that has fences and looks defensible. Several members of the party scout the house. It was not unoccupied and the occupants unleash several dogs on one of our party members who gets injured. Some gun fire is exchanged between our party and the occupants. No one is injured but the occupant's dogs are slain. Eventually the misunderstanding is cleared up as the older couple in house is desperate for companionship and in need of help, even though they are mad about the loss of their dogs.
- One party member, the same one who killed the two people at the grocery store, eats the dogs. The party discusses what to do with this member as he is not stable and a danger to the group. The old people will not let this party member into the house as well but allow him to live in the shed on the property.
- The party continues to scavenge and finds more valuable equipment, culminating in looting an abandoned police station and finding body armor and additional weapons.
- The party finds additional survivors who have heard rumors of a larger settlement of survivors forming elsewhere. Half of these survivors leave to try to find the new settlement, the other half joins our party.
- One night the party is attacked in the house by 20 giant locust type monsters that are about the size of dogs. They have powerful poisonous stingers. A raging battle ensues as the locust manage to gain entry through a door that was left open. The locust are defeated but many party members are injured. Most of the new coming survivors who did not have weapons or body armor died.
That is where we left things. After this Steve left a cryptic message that he had to do a move very quickly and dropped off the radar, saying he would be available in January. If so hopefully we can pick up the campaign again.

What I'm asking...was it part of the fun, or a disruption to the group?
